Chicken Legs Weaver formed some years ago in Sheffield, England and quickly
built up a reputation as an exciting live band with strong original material.
“clearly the best band the UK has produced in a while”- THURSTON
MOORE/BYRON COLEY.
During Summer 2002, an underground American journalist by the name of
Byron Coley contacted the band offering to release some live material on Ecstatic
Yod Records, a small, vinyl-only label that he part owns with THURSTON
MOORE of SONIC YOUTH.
“Wishbone Hands” eventually
surfaced in Spring 2005 in collaboration with Nigel Cross’s Shagrat label
featuring sleeve artwork by BILLY CHILDISH and
liner notes by MICK FARREN.
Chicken Legs started looking for someone who would be able to capture their
raw, uncompromising sound in the studio. When they supported the amazing JOHNNY
DOWD BAND at The Barfly, Johnny expressed an interest in producing the “Chicken
album”, as he put it.
Mik Glaisher was the amazing drummer behind the Comsat
Angels success in
the 80’s and 90’s. He replaced the previous Drummer “Tank” and
transformed the band into something awesome.
The new team went to upstate New York in a blizzard to record “NOWHERE” with
JOHNNY DOWD and Justin Asher. Together they produced a magnificent album.
The record also includes a co writing collaboration with alt country hero JIM
WHITE.
In Autumn 2004, double bassist Norton Lees announced he was leaving and that
October, Mik and Andy took three new songs into the studio with another great
singer/ songwriter and producer, RICHARD HAWLEY. One of these songs “Monday
Man”, features on second album, “SILK RIPPED
DRESS” Along with Colin Elliott at Yellow Arch Studios, Richard
turned an unprepared two piece into a mighty garage blues band.
Jane
Howden took over with a driving electric bass sound that fitted perfectly. Her
heavy but felicitous runs completed the picture making it darker and sexier than
ever.
In 2005 they expanded their fan base to Belgium, France and Switzerland signing
a licensing deal with Riverside Records and a publishing deal with Bug Music.
“well down and dirty,.get yourselves a gun!”- LARRY LOVE, ALABAMA
3
This led to UK support slots with ALABAMA THREE,
JOHNNY DOWD and SEASICK
STEVE.
The following year Chicken Legs were discovered by TV and Radio presenter MARK
LAMARR who invited them to record a session for his Radio2 Show. In May that
year NOWHERE was released on the French label Riverside Records with worldwide
distribution. It was received with great critical acclaim.
“they should make CREAM ashamed to call themselves a power trio!” MARK
LAMARR
In 2007, the band recorded their second album “SILK
RIPPED DRESS” and
travelled again to France to appear at the Garde ’n’ Blues festival
in Marseille. The album is due out this Spring (2008) following their second
appearance on MARK LAMARR’S GOD’S JUKEBOX SHOW.
