Ross und Reiter

The history of paperfolding

Ross und Reiter

A few weeks ago I presented a cabinet exhibition about the historical model 'Ross und Reiter' (Knight & Horse), in conjunction with the exhibition "Entfaltet" (Unfolded) in the Norddeutsches Spielzeugmuseum (Nord german toys museum) in Soltau, Germany. This 200 years old model was a creation of the german teacher and artist Adolf Senff (1785-1863) during 1809-1812 in Dresden, and is considered as the oldest folded model of the world which we know the author.

Another reason to make this cabinet exhibition is that 1912 was published the first folding instructions of this model by Lili Droetscher (together with Hildegard von Gierke and Alice Davidsohn) first in the second edition of the book "Allerlei Papierarbeiten. Kleine Beschäftigungsbücher für Kinderstube und Kindergarten". Edited in Leipzig & Berlin by Verlag und Druck von Benedictus Gotthelf Teubner in 1912.

You can enjoy it until May 2012, I think.
