On June 19th, Sotheby's (Paris) will auction the book "Li Tre Trattati" by Mattia Giegher (Padova: Paolo Frambotto, 1639).

The book belonged to Gershon Legman and it is being auction by his widow, Judith Legman. Before, G. Legman purchased the book from a bookseller named Carlo Alberto Chiesa.

Li Tre Trattati is the earliest known European handbook for chefs on the art of carving meat and fruit on the table, and of making baroque table-decorations in which whales, dolphis, fortresses, and even full-rigged sailing ships were folded in starched cloth as center pieces.

It is an extremely rare book. Joan Sallas informed that a private sale went for 40,000 euros. Also, in 2004, a copy of this book was auctioned for 16,120 euros by Sothebys.

If you are interested or wish to bid, you may want to contact Sotheby's, Paris.

Thanks to Laura Rozenberg for this ;)
