Recently, I found lost in a carton a french booklet that I bought while ago about Froebel paper folding
" Les Pliages selon Froebel et les autres"
ISBN-10: 2910067327
Editeur : Art de l'Enfance

This 60 pages booklet, gives a short revue of Froebel paper folding as educative method and its influence to others.
.First part introduce Froebel beautiful patterns developed from a square which is transformed in a common basic form after a blintz base...so children can create many of them with the help of their teacher.
Then, coming back to the square, the author explains how other ways of folding a square will lead the children to discover new funny shapes as well as a quantity of interesting geometric observations and a new development of artistic figures or figures of common objects
and refers to what Froebel called as the forms of beauty, the forms of life and the forms of knowledge (or truth)
Following pages depict drawings of variations of the blintz base from the simple(clock, house, stamp),to the windmill (" moulinet")and its variations to the more complex yakko and its variations...

The second part of the booklet is referring to several articles edited in the book " Tout " ( Hachette, 1910) and the magazine " Mon Journal" from 1898 to 1902.,
written by the prestidigitator Alber-Graves,
who demonstrates how to make your own paper toy ( hat, lantern, iris, palanquin, japanese box..) using both grid and radial patterns. Some toys appear in the book "Joujoux en papier" (1924) Tom Tit

The last pages are extracts from Mlle S.Brès " Jeux et Occupations pour les Petits" Librairie Fernand nathan, Paris (1932) Guide des Mères et des Institutrices.

Thanks Françoise for these information in French language.

I will add something for part of diagrams by Alber-Graves :
No doubts there has been published in his book "Les petits secrets amusants" First edition 1908 and 2 more edition in 1911 and 1921. All edited by Hachette.
The real name of the author (that was a magician) is Jean-Jacques Edouard Graves.

Do you have more precise date for the publication in "Mon journal" for the lanter, the iris and the palanquin ?

I'm also very interested by the booK ? the magazine "Tout" by Hachette 1910.
Can you post scan for these ?

And my last question that is the size of the book ?

Thanks in advance

Thanks Michel, for the message.
Concerning the book "Tout" and the size of the book, I have very little information, only 2 pages.
Here is what it ´s written
in the booklet " Les Pliages selon Froebel et les autres " concerning the articles of the Prestidigitator Alber from pages 26 to 55

Since the new issue is from Avril 2000, I don´t know how much I am allowed to release on the web.
However, these following articles are old from latest 1910, so it should not be a problem. If it is , someone will warn me..
I add the booklet "Les Pliages selon Froebel et les autres" in the origamidatabase.

Sorry if the scan are poor resolutions, it had to resize them to be accepted .

Many thanks, Françoise, for all the scans and the communication about the book "Le pliage selon Froebel et les autres".
The material has been collected by the late founder of the private museum "L'art de l'enfance" Yves Rifaux (passed away in 2011).

With yours information, I have up-dated my file (attached) about
Les petits secrets amusants by Alber-Graves (1908) and the magazine "Mon journal" where all the diagram were published before.
Only the kettle has been not used.

Michel

PS I have found nothing about the "mysterious" publication "Tout" Hachette 1910. But how it's the same editor as the book, the publication of the crabe's diagram could be an example for making advertising of the book ?
