After appearing on a TV programme Time for Blackburn with Tony Blackburn John and I went to get fish and chips in his car and a group of strange lads shouted an insulting remark to John and I shouted How dare you speak about my fiancee like that and John was upset that strange kids could come out with a remark like that so I went out with him on countless occasions and he was a kind and thorough gentleman.
I was elated at the end of his life that Rod Stewart who I had never met, but John gave him his first break when he found him busking on a station remembered that and paid for John’s hospital bill which touched me greatly at his kind gesture.
