Awakenings
2006 volume 1 : Spring
Awakenings 2006 volume 2.5 : Fur Herr Forcher
Awakenings 2007 volume 1.5 : Awake
Those lovely people at Ambient
Live give me semi-regular gigs at their Awakenings
festivals in Leeds and it's fascinating to hear how my music impinges on and
relates to the electronic music scene. Reviewers and audiences aren't always
sure what to make of it without the usual sequencer and mellotron, but they're
a pretty broad-minded and supportive lot. Special back-slaps to John Sherwood,
who puts so many hours into making it work.
Regarding
the tracks themselves, Spring is essentially e-bow improvisations
over some live looping, but it egenrates a suitably dark mood (when will I
record something cheerful?) .
Fur Herr Forcher is dedicated to the late Peter-Paul Forcher, an
Austrian paper-folding peer of mine. Awake is a more conscious
attempt to incorporate a slight element of what is known as the "Berlin School"
(Tangerrine dream etc) into my style, although what
might sound like a sequenced mellotron is actually a cardboard "wobbleboard"
in the finset traditions of Rolf Harris.
